While retiring to a condominium in Florida may sound sunny and relaxing, the insurance requirements may be different from elsewhere in the country. Due to the high risk of damage due to a hurricane, it is compulsory that condominium associations have Florida condominium insurance to protect the exterior of a condominium. Be aware that this type of insurance doesn’t provide protection for condo homeowners’ contents.

Condo association insurance usually provides coverage for buildings. It may include a residents’ club house, and liability in case someone is harmed on the grounds of the property.

A condominium homeowners insurance policy usually covers what the association policy doesn’t. Typically this is the personal possessions of the condo homeowner and it may also offer liability protection if a visitor is injured while in a homeowner’s condo.

As with any insurance policy there may be exclusions and restrictions in the terms and conditions and extra coverage may be purchased and added to a standard policy. Many people add flood and earthquake protection to help obtain a measure of peace of mind in a state that is prone to nature’s perils.

Being sure you have the appropriate Florida condominium insurance coverage for your new home and personal may allow you to relax into your retirement in the sun.
