Florida’s general lack of extremely cold weather conditions makes it a desirable retirement place for seniors. After many years of living and maintaining a family home, the idea of condominium living without a backyard may also attract some older people. To protect your retirement home in your golden years it’s vital to insure your possessions with a Florida condominium insurance policy.

Typically a condo complex will have an association that takes care of insurance coverage of the building and potential outdoor liability issues. Potential inside issues such as fire, theft, vandalism, water damage and liability protection are the responsibility of each individual owner when it comes to insurance. The policy that covers the bricks and mortar complex does not cover your personal belongings or improvements you’ve made to the interior.

You should have an up-to-date inventory of all your personal belongings that would need to be replaced in the event of unexpected loss. The amount your inventory tallies up to is the amount your possessions should be insured for. A video or photographs of your personal items is also an excellent idea and may be helpful if identification is ever necessary.

Not all your belongings are automatically covered by a standard Florida condominium insurance policy and you may need to purchase additional coverage for valuable items such as jewelry or antiques. Earthquake and windstorm coverage are typically purchased as separate policies too. For further information don’t hesitate to contact one of the agents at our Florida insurance agency. They will be more than happy to help you select the appropriate insurance for your needs.
